Home / Blog / News : It’s in Isle of Wight’s budget: $29 million for schools employee salaries

The Isle of Wight School Board approved a 2 percent pay bump for all employees earlier this year, which went into effect with the current budget that started in July.

The school system now spends more than $29.1 million on salaries for employees, according to salary information provided by the school system.

That’s more than half of the schools’ total operating expenses this year, which was budgeted at just north of $57 million.

The average salary for a schools employee is $45,937. The average for Isle of Wight’s 352 teachers, who make up about 53 percent of the district’s employees, is slightly higher at $53,871.

Six schools employees earn six-figure salaries. Superintendent Katrise Perera unsurprisingly tops the list, with an annual salary of $154,230. Here are the other five:

•Laura Abel, assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and administration — $109,650

•Philip Jepson, director of human resources — $107,100

•Lynn Briggs, director of education technology — $102,135

•Christina Berta, director of budget and finance — $101,500

•Rashard Wright, director of schools, leadership, development and alternative education — $101,500
